A

Diverticulosis refers to the presence of diverticula, without inflammation or infection. Diverticulosis may be referred to as diverticular disease when patients experience symptoms.

MANAGEMENT

General principles

A
  • None if asymptomatic, but advice about fibre and weight loss
  • Bulk forming laxatives (eg ispaghula husk), stimulant laxatives like senna should be avoided
  • Surgery to remove affected area maybe required when no improvement
