• The profession suffers from a lack of diversity in terms of sex, age, gender, ethnic background, disability and sexual orientation.
• Inclusive employer MArk encourages businsesses to look carefully at their emplyment practises and put inclusivity at the heart of them.
• Based on 6 principles of leadership, recruitment, retention, development, engagement and continuous improvement.

What is unconscious bias?

Answer 2

• When we make judgements based on past experience, underlying thought patterns, assumptions etc and we are not even aware we are doing it.
• Example is recruitment in orchestras - when auditions took place behind screens so the candidates could not be seen, the number of female musicians recruited increased dramatically.
