What is antiblackness
a deep bias, hostility, dehumanization, and otherwise mistreatment of Black and dark-skinned people of all ethnic groups
What is colorism?
bias against dark-skinned people and the preferential treatment of people with lighter skin
What is anti-racism?
the intentional efforts, action, policy change, practice etc. with the explicit intention to interrupt and dismantle racism, racist practice, and racist policy
What is inclusion?
the act of including or being included, consideration in what you are doing, anticipating needs and preparing to serve
What is privilege?
unearned rights, advantages, superior social standing granted to a specific person or group of people based on their belonging to a particular identity, class, or group
what is racism?
the belief that one’s race is superior to another and the ability to institutionalize that belief because of the collective power of that group to reinforce that belief through policies, systems, and ideologies
prejudice
prejudgment of people based on stereotypes
discrimination
the way we treat people based on the prejudgment
racism (as an equation)
discrimination + power = racism
because of your power you can institutionalize your racist beliefs
cultural humility
you can sit with people and listen without dismissing them; you help them process what they are feeling
when people call you in, what should you do?
be willing to listen and live in the discomfort and agree with them if you know they are right - defending yourself doesn’t help
what to say if you don’t feel you can coach this person

Or, say you deserve to be served here and I’m not sure I can do that/I’m not capable of doing that so I’m going to refer you to someone who can.
