Define DID per DSM V
dissociative identity disorder is diagnosed in patients who present with 2 or more separate personalities or identities (each with unique qualities), with periods during which at least 2 of these personalities control the patient’s behaviors simultaneously. Other symptom descriptions include discontinuity of senses, altered behaviors, affects, perceptions, cognition, etc. These criteria may be detailed by the patient or as witnessed by other individuals who have interacted with the patient. The symptoms should cause marked distress or functional impairment and should not be commonly associated with religious or cultural practices. Furthermore, there ought to also be a presence of poor information recall beyond that of simple forgetfulness. This diagnosis should not be given in the setting of substance use that may be contributing to these symptoms.
