digoxin Flashcards
1
Q
main indications
A
heart failure
arrythmias
hypertension
2
Q
mechanism of action
A
Inhibits the Na-K-ATPase membrane pump, resulting in an increase in intracellular sodium and calcium - increasing contraction of muscles and reducing conduction of the AV node
3
Q
contraindications and cautions
A
- Narrow therapeutic index
- Too much - AV delay will be too long causing brachycardia and heart block
- Increases ventricular irritability which produces ventricular arrhythmias
4
Q
overdose of digoxin
A
yellow vision, headache
5
Q
side effects
A
- Heart block
- Arrhythmias
- N+V
- Diarrhoea
- Disturbances of colour vision
6
