Digestion of Lipids Flashcards
1
Q
What happens to lipids when mixed with water
A
lipids don’t mix wel with water, nad tend to clumb together in big blobs. This makes it difficult ofr the enzyme (lipase) to break them down into fatty acids and glycerol.
2
Q
emulisfication
A
bile emulsifieslarge fat droplets into the small intestine.
This makes the digestion easier for lipase as it now has a larger surface area to eb able to break down- lipase will work faster.
