Diffuse Alveolar Damage Flashcards
1
Q
What is DAD?
A
- Your father
- Nah jk it is the histological responses of interstitial lung disease and other conditions
2
Q
What three conditions is acute DAD seen?
A
- ARDS
- Acute interstitial pneumonia
- Hyaline membrane disease
3
Q
What are the 2 stages of DAD?
A
- Exudative stage
- Proliferative stage
4
Q
What happens in the exudative stage?
A
- Oedema
- Hyaline membranes
5
Q
Describe the oedema formed in the exudative stage?
A
- Similar to pulmonary oedema in that the alveoli become flooded with transudate
6
Q
What does the hyaline membrane stage consist of?
A
- Fibrous structures laid down
- Stop oxygen being absorbed
7
Q
What happens during the proliferative stage?
A
- Interstitial inflammation
- Interstitial fibrosis
8
Q
What are the histological features of DAD?
A
- Protein rich oedema
- Fibrin
- Hyaline membranes
- Epithelial and fibroblast proliferation
- Scarring
9
Q
What are the causes of DAD?
A
Many Causes
- Idiopathic
- Chemical injury
- Circulatory shock
- Drugs
- Infection
- Autoimmune
