symmetrical swelling
from the iliac crests to the ankle
the dorsum of the foot
never affects
stemmers sign negative
pitting –> lipedema
little or none
no cellulitis
lipedema is
painful to palpation
bruising occurs easily
venous edema
non-pitting
hemosiderin staining
fibrosis of subcutaneous tissues
atrophic skin
acute DVT onset
is sudden
usually unilateral
acute DVT is
painful
cyanosis
positive homan’s sign
acute DVT must
have doppler study prior to tx
cardiac edema is greaster
distally
cardiac edema is always
bilateral
rapid weight gain
cardiac edema has
pitting
no pain
complete resolution –> cardiac edema
w/ elevation
CHF has
pitting edema
orthopnea
paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea
dyspnea on exertion
jugular vein distention
pts w/ sxs must have –> CHF
cardiac clearance prior to consideration for tx
