Lay larvated eggs that hatch immediately
What is the life-cycle of D. viviparus?
- L1 in lungs coughed up + swallowed + passed out in faeces
- L1 develop to L3 in faeces (infective stage)
- 0-7 days post-infection - L3 ingested + lympho-tracheal migration
- Moults to L4 in lymph nodes + travels to lungs
- 8-25 days post-infection L4-L5 in lungs - L5 migrate up bronchial tree + adults in bronchi and trachea
- 26-55days post-infection - adults in URT + eggs + L1
- 55 days+ protective immunity
