Dose/route
5mg SLOW IVP or IM if unable to start IV, MR 5mg IVP or IM if seizure persists
Cardioversion=SLOW IVP 5-10mg

- 25 mg/kg SLOW IVP, IM, IO, titrate to control seizure.
0. 5 mg/kg rectal

IV=1-5 min
IM= 5-15 min

Contra
1) Hypersensitivity to Valium
2) hypovolemia, hypotension, shock
3) Coma
4) Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
5) Acute ETOH intoxication
6) Depressed vital signs
7) Pregnancy

CNS= sedation, ataxia, coma, drowsiness CV= Hypotension Resp= resp. Depression

Precautions
1) Keep airway equipment ready (airway management)
2) Monitor VS & assess resp. Continuously
3) Possible resp. Depression w/ rapid IVP
4) IM injections = give in large muscle mass (no deltoid)
5) Potentiates effects of ETOH & CNS depressants
6) Painful during IV admin, may cause local venous irritation
