Shock/hypotension
Alcohol intoxication
Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
Relative contraindication
Head injury (with decreased CNS function)
Adverse effects - cardiovascular (3)

Depression/hypoventilation
Apnea

Phlebitis
Administration
5-10 mg Slowly IVP at 5 mg per minute.
Titrate to stop seizure activity or until sedation occurs for Cardioversion
May repeat 5 mg/minute as needed to a maximum of 20 mg
Pediatrics
0.1 - 0.3 mg/kg slowly IVP (1mg per minute) or 0.5 mg/kg per rectum (PR)
Titrate IV dose to stop seizure activity or until sedation occurs for Cardioversion
May repeat IVP dose as needed to maximum of 5 mg up to age 5 and a maximum of 10 mg for older pediatric patients

1-5 minutes
Duration
2-3 hours
Precaution
Establish largest bite cannula possible in large vein and run IV wide open until administering medication
Rationale
Drug may cause pain, warmth or burning at IV site. Patient may develop phlebitis sclerosis or thrombosis of vein.
