- Patients with an ALOC (depressed)
- Patients complaining nausea
- Patients taking precose(Acarbose)

- Nausea/vomiting
2. Aspiration
Administration - solution
75-100 gm PO, sipped slowly
Administration- paste/gel
1 inch of paste placed between cheek and gum
Pediatrics - solution
1 gm/kg PO, slipped slowly
Pediatric - paste
No recommended
Onset
Within minutes
Duration
Depends on degree and cause of hypoglycemia
Precaution
Administer only to patients who can hold the bottle and drink without assistance
Rationale
May result in aspiration in a patient with a decreased level of consciousness of vomiting occurs
