Il est fatigué de travailler

46
Q

PLUS

Basic rule: we never pronounce the last “s”, except :

plus de … (plus de vin, plus de noix….)

liaison : word starting in a vowel (plus ou moin - the “s” par example carrys on to the “o” like a “z” sound)

verb + plus (Je travaille plus)

A

So: pronounce the “s”:

  • when it means “more” with a Verb
  • plus de vin / noix … (plus de + noun)
Un jour de plus au paradis

liaison : connecting with a word starting in a vowel - more a “zzz”
A est plus important que B.
Plus ou moins

Don’t pronounce the “s”:

  • plus vieux, plus tôt (plus + adjective)
  • when it means “not anymore” with a verb
47
Q

this or that….

ça ou ça

Or you could say:

ceci ou cela ?

I could come later (maybe …) = Je pourrais venir plus tard

Could you help me ? = Tu pourrais m’aider ?

49
Q

Using: que/ça/cela (f) for “that”

A

que/ça/cela for “that”

That is easy : starts the sentence, just before a verb / or “ends a sentence” after a verb.

c’est facile
ça dépend …
Tu aimes ça
Je préfère ça

He said that he is coming later : in the middle of a sentence, in between 2 verbs:

Il a dit que il vient plus tard
Je sais que c’est difficile

Je sais que …. = I know that …

Aussi,

Je veux cela = I want that = formal, so use ça
