Diabetes Flashcards
Hyperglycemia
increased blood sugar, >125mg/dL
Hyperglycemia symptoms
frequent urination and thirst, blurred vision, drowsy, rapid heart rate
Diabetic Ketoacidosis - DKA - Type 1
dangerous complication, Severe insulin deficiency with ↑ glucose levels >300mg/dL, can be result of infection, decreased compliance, substance abuse
Diabetic ketoacidosis symptoms
mild nausea, thirst, polyuria, confusion
Hyperosmolar nonketotic state – HNS – type 2
Extreme hyperglycemia > 600-2000mg/dL, mild or undetectable ketonuria & absence of acidosis
Hyperosmolar nonketotic state symptoms
extreme hunger, frequent urination, thirst
Hypoglycemia
Condition of low blood sugar, <70mg/dL
hypoglycemia symptoms
irregular or fast HR, fatigue, pale skin, shakiness, sweating, hunger, irritability, tingling/numbness of lips, tongue, or cheek
A1c levels
