Design Of Experiments 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What are standardised instructions
A
-participants are given exact the same info at start of study (applies to non-experimental methods)
2
Q
Repeated measure design
A
-order effects could bias results, when participants improve/get worse at a task as they complete two or more conditions
3
Q
How to avoid order effects
A
Counterbalancing
-order of conditions is balanced so participants do not all complete the conditions in the same order as each other
4
Q
Independent groups design
A
- doesn’t suffer from order effects as participants only complete one condition
- suffer from participant variables (differences), can affect outcome
- to minimise this, randomly allocate participants to different conditions of experiment
5
Q
Matched pairs design
A
- advantage, specific participant variables are controlled for matching them up
- disadvantage, TIME CONSUMING and doesn’t control all EVs
6
Q
Ethical procedures
A
- INFORMED CONSENT, for children, parental consent is necessary
- right to withdraw
- debriefing then at end of study
- data must be confidential
7
Q
What is seen as unethical
A
-deception because participants haven’t given their informed consent to take part
