Verbs that describe something (such as a noun)
이다
“To be”
Used in 이에요 and 예요, which works like an equal sign: “equals”; “it is”.
반가다
“To be happy to see”
= 반갑습니다; “nice to meet you”
감사하다
“To be thankful”; “To be grateful”
= 감사합니다; “thank you”
고맙다
“To be thankful”; “To be grateful”
= 고맙습니다; “thank you”
아니다
“To not be”
Used in 아니야, 아니에요, and 아닙니다, which is like saying “it is not”; “to be not”.
In this way they mean “It is not (something you have to thank me for)”
실례하다
“To do a discourtesy”; “To be rude”
= 실례합니다, 실례지만…; Excuse me; Excuse me, but…
똑똑하다
“To be smart”
= 똑똑해요
바쁘다
“To be busy”
= 바빠요
그렇다
“To be so”
= 그래요; “is like that”; yes/okay
= 그래요?; “is it so?”
맵다
“To be spicy”
= 매워요
부럽다
“To be jealous”
= 부러워요
춥다
“To be cold (weather)”
= 추워요
좋다
“To be good”
= 좋아요
맛(이)있다
“To be delicious”; “To taste good”
= 맛있어요
있다
“To exist”
= 있어요
