Going to Do It Flashcards
Action Verb + (으)러
To say that you/someone is going/coming somewhere in order to do an action, use the grammar form (으)러.
1) Get the stem of an action verb
2) Attach 으러 if it ends in a consonant, or attach 러 if it ends in a vowel
Ex: 가다 => 가러
Ex2: 먹다 => 먹으러
Verb stems ending with a 리을 (ㄹ) will simply attach 러 to the end.
Ex: 놀다 => 놀러
This form will be combined with verbs that show movement, such as 가다 ‘to go’ or 오다 ‘to come.’
Ex: 아니스크림을 먹으러 갈 거예요. ‘I will go to eat ice cream.’
Ex2: 일하러 가고 싶지 않아요. ‘I don’t want to go to do work.’
Ex3: 여기 한국어를 공부하러 왔어요. ‘I came here to study Korean.’
Ex4: 한국에 놀러 가고 싶어요. ‘I want to go to Korea to hang out.’
Ex5: 지금 차를 마시러 가요. ‘Now I’m going to drink tea.’
Ex6: 선생님을 만나러 갈 거예요. ‘I will go to meet the teacher.’
The (으)러 form is used to say that you are going or coming somewhere in order to do something.
If you want to just say that you’re going to do something, use the regular future tense form.
Ex: 밥 먹으러 갈 거예요. ‘I am going to go to eat.’ (uses (으)러 form: 먹으러)
밥 먹을 거예요. ‘I’m going to eat a meal.’ (uses future tense informal: 먹을 거예요)
Again, remember that this form (으)러 is used just to say that you’re going or coming somewhere in order to do something.
