what is deindividuation
losing your sense of identity and personal responsibility when you become immersed into the norms of a group
what factors affect deindividuation
-anonymity
-social identity rather than private identity
-diffusion of responsibility
what is anonymity?
when in a group we are less identifiable, less accountable for actions- less inhibited (to act aggressive)
social identity rather than private identity?
values of group are adopted when part of group, individual identity is weakened when part of group/crowd. group identity assumed (aggressive more likely)
diffusion of responsibility?
Being part of a group crowd- reduction in feelings of personal responsibility -responsibility being shared within the group. big group-> more deindividuated -> more aggressive
