Define confined space
- Large enough for entry
- Limited openings for entry and exit
- Not designed for continuous occupancy
Clear grounds
Evidence that a ship, its equipment, or its crew does not correspond substantially with the requirements of the relevant conventions
Objective Evidence
Quantitative or qualitative information, records or statements of fact pertaining to safety or to the existence and implementation of a safety management system element, which is based on observation, measurement or test and which can be verified.
Intrinsically Safe
A circuit which any spark or theremal effect is incapable of causing ignition of a mixture of flammable or combustible material in air under prescribed test conditions.
Non-Conformity
An observed situation where objective evidence indicates the non-fulfillment of a specified requirement
Major Non-Conformity
Poses a serious threat to the safety of personnel, or the ship, or a serious risk to the environment that requires immediate corrective actions.
Deficiency
A condition found not to be in compliance with the relevant convention
Weathertight
Water will not penetrate into the vessel in any sea condition.
Watertight
Capable of preventing the passage of water through the structure in any direction under a head of water.
Substandard Ship
A ship whose, hull, machinery, equipment or operational safety is substantially below the standards required by the relevant convention

Whose crew is not in conformance with the Minimum Safe Manning
