Defensive Systems (I Hope We Die) Flashcards
Jettison Mode Overrides (when)
If WOW is disengaged (in flight) jettison mode will override all other modes
RWR Components
4 antenna assemblies
2 antenna SUB assemblies
1 blade antenna
1 receiver processor
What RF does the antenna assembly receive?
E through J
and K
RWR blade antenna band signals
C and D
RWR antenna SUB assemblies job
convert millimeter wave band RF signals to microwave bands (K)
it also acts as a pass through for E/J bands (since they’re already microwave)
RWR how many antenna assemblies are there?
what coverage do they provide
which polarization

CMDS Name
AN-ALE 47
CMWS (Common Missile Warning System) Name
AN/AAR-57
IBU (Interference Blanking Unit) Purpose
Prevents false warnings from onboard equipment being used.
So the system doesn’t get tripped from your own transmissions.

What 3 things do the Sensor Assemblies on the AN/AVR-2B Detect?
Target Designators
Laser Range Finders
Beam Riders
PTO -1
Laser Detection Set SCM Job
(4)
- Processes detected signals from Sensor Assemblies
- Identifies Threat Types
- Prioritizes them in order of lethality
- Issues reports to the FMS
PTO -1
AN/AVR-2B
Where does the FMS send threat data information to after it is received from the SCM?
AMC
PTO -1
How are audio alerts sent to the ICS (from LDS)
Via the FMS
PTO -1
Laser Detecting Set Sensor Assemblies
Detect laser radiation in bands…
I, II, IIIA/G
PTO -1
RWR AN/APR-52
Antenna Assemblies receive what signals?
K and E through J RF signals
PTO -1
RWR AN/APR-52 What band signals do the blade antennas receive?
C/D band RF signals
PTO -1
RWR AN/APR-52
Antenna Sub-Assemblies (AS) Job
-Convert millimeter wave band (K) RF signals to microwave band.
-Act as a pass through for incoming microwave signals (E/J) RF band signals
PTO -1
Radar Warning Receiver
Receiver Processor (R/P) Job
(5)
- Processes detected RF signals sent from the antenna sub-assemblies
- Compares the signal against the threat library contained in the MDL (Mission Data Load)
- Sends an audible warning via ICS
- Sends a visual warning via AMC
- Analyzes RF transmission signals against the IBU blanking signals
PTO -1
RWR Antenna Assemblies (AA) Job
(Two rod shaped millimeter wave antennas) Covers band K
(One microwave antenna) Covers E/J
PTO -1
RWR Blade Antenna Job
Direction Finding Antenna
Picks up C/D band frequencies
PTO -1
RWR AN/APR-52 Operation
Who does the receiver processor receive direction from to download the threat library from the MDL?
AMC
PTO -1
AN/APR-52
Who do the antenna assemblies route their incoming K and E through J RF transmission bands to?
Antenna Sub-Assemblies
PTO -1
AN/APR-52
Who do the antenna sub-assemblies convert K and E through J band for?
Receiver Processor
PTO -1
AN/APR-52
Who does the blade antenna send C-D RF transmission to?
Receiver Processor
PTO -1
IBU Flow
EO/IR LSRF is engaged, a blanking request from the AMC is sent to the IBU, which then sends the blanking command to the LDS or RWR.
PTO -1
CMDS Sequencer Job
Monitors and controls expendables based on the data received from the CMWS.
PTO -1
CMDS/CMWS Operation
How to update FMS screen?
from AUTO
BYPASS–AUTO
PTO -1
How long does the CMDS/CMWS system need to update FMS screen inventories?
10-30 sec
PTO -1

EOMS (5)
ECU
Programmable UDM/RDM
PTO -1
CMWS Detection
HFI types 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (gun/rocket)
Passively detects in-band Ultra Violet imagery
PTO -1
CMWS AN/AAR-57
Who does the EOMS send digitized UV imagery to?
ECU
PTO -1
CMWS ECU Job
Process data from EOMS to determine if a threat exists
PTO -1
CMWS Who does the ECU send threat data to?
AMC
PTO -1
CMDS AN/ALE-47 What component does the Sequencer receive magazine configuration from?
CMWS
PTO -1
CMDS
When the cabin dispense switch is pressed, where is it sending the flare dispense command to?
CMWS ECU
PTO -1
What does the JETTISON switch manual dispense?
All flares
PTO -1
CHAFF LOW Advisory
Chaff inventory is below nine
PTO -1
FLARE LOW Advisory
Flare inventory is below nine
PTO - 1
What does BYPASS MODE in the CMDS/CMWS Operation do?
Bypasses CMWS ECU. The sequencers ignore any commands from the CMWS ECU and independently monitor the cyclic countermeasures mode switch and cabin switches for commands.
Dispensing is now controlled by the programs that were uploaded to the sequencers from the UDM/RDM by the CMWS ECU during systems initialization. (Defaults)
Used in the event of a system failure.
