Deep Muscle Origin & Insertion Flashcards
Semimembranosis Origin
Under the first 2 caudal vertebrae, as well as the medial of the ischial tuberosity and sacrosciatic ligament.
Semimembranosis Insert
Below the stifle on the inside of the femur
Gluteus Medius Orgin
From many locations on the ilium, the gluteal fascia, and the sacroiliac ligament.
Gluteus Medius Insert
The outside of the hip joint at the femur.
Rectus Femoris Origin (Quads)
At the ilium
Rectus Femoris (quads) Insert
Into the patella, it’s ligaments and down into the leg
Quadriceps Femoris Origin (the other 3 quads)
On the femur
Quadriceps Femoris Insert (the other 3 quads)
Into the patella, its ligaments, and then down into the leg.
Longissimus Dorsi Origin
No specific origin or insert points, but attaches to the vertebrae at the transverse processes from the sacrum traveling all the way to C4 in the cervical spine.
Latissimus Dorsi Insert
No specific origin or insert points, but attaches to the vertebrae at the transverse processes from the sacrum traveling all the way to C4 in the cervical spine.
Cervical Rhomboid Origin
On the Nuchal Ligament from C2 to T2
Thoracic Rhomboid Origin
On the Nuchal Ligament from T2 to T7
Cervical Rhomboid Insert
The scapular cartilage
Thoracic Rhomboid Insert
The scapular cartilage
Infraspinatus Origin
On the caudal side of the scapula, the spine of the scapula, and the scapular cartilage
Infraspinatus Insert
Just below the shoulder joint on the humerus
Nuchal Ligament Fanicular Origin
Occipital at the base of the skull. 2 cords on either side of neck
Nuchal Ligament Fanicular Insert
At the withers where it ties into the supraspinous ligament which continues along the spine into the sacrum
Nuchal ligament Lamellar Origin
From the funicular cord
Nuchal Ligament Lamellar Insert
Into the top of each cervical vertebrae from C2 to C5. There is one on either side of the neck.
