✓ Data Presentation (AO1 + AO3) Flashcards
What are the 4 Types of Data Presntation?
Tables
Bar Charts
Line Graphs
Histograms
How are Tables used to present data?
results tables summarise the main findings of data
+
usually data totals are presented rather than percentages
+
relevant measures of dispersion/central tendency are shown
Strength of using Tables to present data?
- easy to see results & create
Weakness of using Tables to present data?
- can be hard to spot trends in data
How are Bar Charts used to present data?
bar charts show nominal data in the form of categories to be compared
+
bar charts can show percentages, means, totals, ratios along the y axis
+
the bars must have a gap between each bar
Strength of using Bar Charts to present data?
- simple to do & read
Weakness of using Bar Charts to present data?
- not suitable for continuous data
How are Line Graphs used to present data?
shows continuous data
+
it uses points connected by lines to show how something changes in value, for instance, over time
+
the IV is plotted on the x-axis & the DV on the y-axis
Strength of using Line Graphs to present data?
- shows continuous data
Weakness of using Line Graphs to present data?
- complicated to create & read
How are Histograms used to present data?
shows ordinal data (can be put in order) that is continuous & occurs as a frequency hence there are no space between the bars
+
the continuous scores are placed along the x-axis in equal intervals
+
frequency scores are placed along the y-axis
Strength of using Histograms to present data?
- shows continuous data
Weakness of using Histograms to present data?
- complicated to create & read
