Q

What is the endoplasmic reticulum connected to?

A

The ER is connected to the outer nuclear membrane (Nuclear Envelope) and the cell surface membrane, the cysternae form a network of passages which allow materials to pass through the cell

Q

Describe Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

A
  • RER has ribosomes on the outer surface and transports the protiens made there.
  • It is found in large quantities in salivary glands

Q

Describe smooth endplasmic reticulum

A
  • Its membrane does not have ribosomes and is associated with the synthesis and transport of lipids, steroids and hormone

Found in large quantities in the liver.
