Q

What are 18 features found in plant cells?

A

Start with the same feature as an animal cell…

  1. Nucleus
  2. Nuclear envelope
  3. Nucleolus
  4. Nuclear pore
  5. Cytoplasm
  6. Mitochondria
  7. Lysosome
  8. Small tempory Vacuole
  9. Centrioloe
  10. Golgi body
  11. Endoplasmic reticulum
  12. Cell surface membrane

Then add…

  1. Cellulose cell wall
  2. Plasmodesmata
  3. Chloroplasts Large,
  4. permanent vacuole filled with cell sap
  5. Tonoplast around vacuole
  6. Starch grains for storage

Q

What are the differences between animal and plant cells?

A

In contrast to plant cells, animal cells do not have:

  • Cellulose cell walls
  • Chloroplasts
  • Plasmodesmata

Animal cells have centrioles and lysosomes present whereas plant cells do not.

Animal cells usually have a small temporary vacuole however plant cells have a large permanent vacuole

Animal cells store food as glycogen whereas plant cells store food as starch grains

Plant cells create energy in the chloroplast by the proccess of Photosynthesis whereas in animal cells the energy is created in the mitochondria via aerobic respiration.
