D5 Function of the Nucleus Flashcards

1
Q

What are the functions of the Nucleus?

A

The Nucleus is the site where Gene transcription occurs i.e. DNA is converted into RNA/mRNA.

This enables Gene translation i.e. The mRNA is decoded into Ribosomes in the cytoplasm or on the endoplasmic reticulum which synthesise Proteins.

Together this is called the process of Gene expression

The enzymes produced by the nucleus controls cell metabolism and

The DNA within the nucleus provide the blueprint for replication
