What if the member is acting in a company other than there assigned company?
There AOR time will be recorded in their assigned company’s Commanding Officers Journal.
When are members able to act out of rank?
Budgeted positions which are temporarily vacant, newly created unbudgeted positions only after approval has been communicated through channels.
Can members act out of rank in positions that are vacated due to organizational changes in which those positions are permanently vacated?
No.

Yes.
How are members trained to act out of rank?
Trained by their immediate company officer, then approved for acting by the company captain.
What happens if the captain of a company is going off for a lengthy period of time and no pool captain is available?
The station command battalion chief is responsible for the proper operation of all aspects of the companies duties and operations and shall monitor the company closely. All other chiefs and assigned officers will cooperate fully during this time. A pool captain should be assigned by the deputy chief of the division whenever possible.
Are captains trained to act as battalion chiefs?
Yes they will be trained by the battalion chief with whom they are working.
Are battalion chiefs trained to act as deputy chiefs?
Yes. They will be trained by the deputy chief with whom they work.
Is approval needed to certify a captain or battalion chief to there acting position?
Yes. After training is complete their names will be submitted on a memo to the Fire Commissioner for approval.
