Directive.

Operational Procedure.
A specific instructional guide that covers proper preparation and routing of forms and reports utilized by all units.
Forms Directive.
A printed publication of specific instructions on a particular EMS subject.
EMS Procedure.
An informational release of limited duration.
General Memorandum.
Operational and informational guidelines stemming from the regular staff meetings. This information is utilized to update affected GM’s, OP’s, Etc.
Chief’s Staff Meeting Notes.
A publication of a permanent nature, too voluminous to be issued as a Directive or Operationsl Procedure.
Manual. e.g. IFSTA, Apparatus Manuals, etc.
Who will read and initial each publication. And make sure that all subordinates are aware of the content?
Company Officers
The unit and/or division that is responsible for their particular related subject matter. e.g. OP, Directive, EMS, etc.
Originating Unit.
Where is a developmental and/or revised Directive or OP submitted?
With an introductory GM forwarded through the Deputy Commissioner of Technical Services, to research and Planning.
When a Directive or OP undergoes only minor changes, do you have to review the entire document or just the highlighted changes?
Highlighted Changes.
When a Directive or OP undergoes major changes, do you have to review the entire document or just the highlighted changes?
Review the Entire Document.
How often are originating units required to review their assigned documents? And when are memos due?
On an Annual Basis. Memo is due by June 1st.
How often does Research and Planning conduct a review of ALL directives and OP’s?
Annually. This will be done in addition to the originating units’ review.
How many copies of a directive does each uniformed unit receive and where do they go?
Three. 1 File Copy, 1 Watch Desk Copy & 1 Bulletin Board Copy (Posted for 15 days).
What does it mean if a directive has an asterisk?
It is distributed to each member individually.
How many copies of an Operational Procedure does each uniformed unit get and where do they go?
Four. 1 File Copy, 1 Watch Desk Copy, 1 Bulletin Board Copy (Posted for 15 days), 1 Apparatus Copy (Carried on ALL Frontline Apparatus and 100 Series).
Who may submit drafts of revised forms directives that they feel warrants a change?
Any Unit.
If a difference of opinion should occur between an originating unit and research & planning, who has the final decision of whether the revision or development gets forwarded to the Fire Commisioner?
Chief of Technical Support Unit.(TSU)

2 copies.
Who is responsible for the development and/or revision of EMS Procedures?
EMS Division.
How many copies of an EMS Procedure does each uniformed unit get and where do they go?
Three. 1 file copy, 1 watch desk copy, and 1 bulletin board copy(15 days).
Where does a General Memorandum get submitted?
To TSU Chief, then forwarded to the Fire Commissioner once approved. Once approved it will be sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Admin Services to be recorded and assigned a sequential number.

Two. 1 file copy & 1 bulletin board copy (15 days).
How is the subject matter chosen for inclusion in Chiefs’ Staff Meeting Notes and when must the info be submitted?
The unit responsible for the subject matter must submit it to the Deputy Commissioner of Operations by 1200 hours on Wednesday.

Two. 1 file copy & 1 bulletin board copy (15 days).
Who is responsible for development, revision & distribution of the IFSTA Manual & Supplements?
Training Division.

The apparatus and equipment officers.
Who is responsible for development, revision & distribution of the Marine Unit Training Manual?
Special Operations Command Unit (SOC).
