Are other flags allowed to be flown with the American flag?
No other flag or pennant should be placed above the American flag. Additional flags will not be displayed unless authorized by the Fire Commissioner.
What happens if it starts snowing or raining while the flag is up?
It will be promptly taken down, dried, and nearly folded and stored.
How should the flag be flown on Memorial day?
At half-staff until 1200 hrs, then displayed at peak.
When will the flag be flown at half-staff?
Other than Memorial day, the flag will only be flown at half-staff when notified by the Fire Commissioner. Flying the flag at half-staff indicates that the entire country is mourning.
How do you fly the flag at half-staff?
Raise the flag to the peak for a moment, then lowered to half-staff. When bringing it down, the flag will be raised to peak momentarily then lowered.
Will dirty, torn, or faded flags be flown?
No. The flag will always be displayed in a neat and clean condition.
Are there loaner flags available when waiting for a flag replacement?
Yes. Each battalion headquarters will maintain a loaner flag.
How do you obtain a new flag?
Companies will order a new flag utilizing an emergency catalogued material issue slip as per directive #30.
What do you do with an unserviceable flag?
It will be returned to the PFA with a memo. No Material issue slip is required. The PFA will dispose of it in a dignified burning ceremony.
