Cytoskeleton Flashcards
cytoskeleton is made up of what type of proteins
cytoskeletal
Made up of 3 main classes of filament, which are
microtubules, intermediate filaments and microfilaments
microfilaments are made up of
fine strands of actin(a globular protein), ~7nm diameter
microfilament properties
they can assemble into filaments and then dissociate, very dynamic
intracellular filaments function
they bind intracellular elements together as well as binding them to the plasmalemma, forming a network through the cytoplasm
intermediate filaments properties
more than 50 types depending on type of cell, 10-15nm diameter
structure of microtubules
hollow tubule made up of 2 tubulin sub units, as well as stability proteins (MAPS)
what does MAPS stand for in microtubules
microtubule associated proteins
microtubule function
make up mitotic spindles and serve as motorway of the cell
explain motorway function of microtubules
proteins kinesin and dynein attach to the microtubules and move along them, dynein moves towards centre and kinesin outer of cell
dynein and kinesin function
associate with organelles and vesicles in the cytoplasm and allow the to move within the cell by attaching to microtubules
where do microtubules come from
originate from centrosome, in centre of cell and radiate outwards
