what is blood made up of
45% formed elements, 55% plasma
what are the formed elements found in blood
RBC(erythrocytes), WBC(leukocytes) and platelets
what are the 2 different classes of WBCs
granulocytes and agranulocytes
what types of cell are granulocytes
neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils
what types of cell are agranulocytes
lymphocytes, monocytes
what is plasms made up of
90% water, rest is proteins, nutrients and salt
what happens when blood is separated, using a centrifuge for example
the RBCs would be at the bottom, WBCs form buffy coat(<1% of whole blood) between RBCs and plasma layer on top (yellow colour)
what is meant by the term hemopoiesis and where does it occur
formation of cellular elements of blood, takes place mainly in bone marrow
