basic structure of the digestive tract Flashcards
what are the 4 major layers of the digestive tract
mucosa, submucosa, muscularis externa, serosa/adventitia
what are the different parts of the mucosa
epithelium(sits on basal lamina) lamina propria(loose connective tissue) muscular mucosae(thin layer of smooth muscle)
what is the submucosa layer made up of
loose connective tissue
what is the muscularis externa made up of
2 thick layers of smooth muscle, inner circular layer and outer longitudinal layer
what is the serosa/adventitia made up of
outer layer of connective tissue, either suspends digestive tract or attaches to other organs
what different variations are there for the mucosa of the digestive tract
protective, absorptive, secretory, protetive+absorptive
what is the name of the digestive tracts own nervous system
enteric nervous system
where do most neurons in the digestive tract live
in between the 2 muscle layers that make up the muscularis externa, in groups called ganglia
