Cystoisospora Flashcards
Endogony of Cystoisospora is divided into:
- schizogony
- merogony
intermediate host, paratenic host, and definite host of Cystoisospora - which “form” does the parasite have in these hosts?
- IH/PH = dormozoite/hypnozoite
- DH - extraintestinal stage (lymph nodes, liver, spleen)
Oocyst of Cystoisospora contain:
- 2 sporocysts
- 8 sporozoites (the sporocysts contain 4 sporozoites each)
Cystoisosporosis of pigs is caused by:
- C. suis
- C. almaataenis – SE Russia region
- C. neyrai – Spain
Cystoisospora suis information
- 3 gen. of meronts, epithelium of SI, 3.- 5. day after infection
- enteric syndrome
(diarrhea: yellow-gray, acidic odor, watery, without blood - death) - short LC – sporogony up to 16 hours (Eimeria 1-3 days)
Cystoisosporosis of pigs - characteristics
- Neonatal enteritis characterized by destruction of the villi of SI epithelium
- widespread disease of piglets aged 8-15 days
Cystoisosporosis of dogs and cats is caused by:
cats:
- Cystoisospora felis
- C. rivolta (cati)
dogs:
- Cystoisospora canis
- C. ohioensis complex – ohioensis, neorivolta, burrowski
Cystoisosporosis of dogs and cats cause what?
- enteritis
- diarrhoea
- polyuria
Cystoisospora felis characteristics:
- SI
- oocyst 38-51 x 27-39 μm
- prepatent. per. 10-11 days
Cystoisospora rivolta (cati) characteristics:
- SI
- oocyst 18-28 x 16-23 μm
- prepatent. per. > 14 days
Cystoisospora canis characteristics:
- caudal part of SI

- pp 9 days
Cystoisosporosis of dogs and cats characteristics:
- rarely PH – rodents
- sporogony – exogenous
- merogony, gamogony – epithelial cells of SI
- Per Oral infection
- resistant oocyst – more than 1 year
- anorexia, apathy, diarrhoea containing mucus and blood, death
