the bluish or purpleish discolouration of skin and mm

Describe the pathophysiology leading to cyanotic mucous membranes
A
lack of oxygen to peripheral tissues due to decreased/inadequate oxygen intake leads to less oxygen saturation of haemaglobin in peripheral tissues causing the blue colour

how do you manage an animal presenting with respiratory distress
A
emergency oxygenation
get ready to intubate
check blood gasses for hypoxaemia/hypercapnia
pain relief
ECG
keep animal calm
get vascular access
