CVRS Flashcards
What 5 functions are there of the CV system?
- Transport substrates to cells
- Transport metabolites from cells
- Distribution of hormones
- Defense
- Thermoregulation
What are erythrocytes?
Red blood cells.
What are thrombocytes?
Platelets.
What is microcirculation?
Where the exchange of substances between blood and tissues occurs.
What other name are veins referred to as? (part of their role in the CV system as a whole)
Capacitance vessels or blood reservoirs.
Where does most of the blood sit in the CV system at any one point in time?
The veins (capacitance vessels).
Where does the cranial vena cava link?
Brain, head, forelimbs - heart (RA).
Where does the pulmonary artery link?
Heart (RV) - lungs.
Where does the pulmonary vein link?
Lungs - heart (LA).
Where does the aorta link?
Heart (LV) - Bronchi, brain, forelimbs, hepatic artery, splanchnic circulation, renal portal system, trunk and hindlimbs.
What does the hepatic artery supply?
Liver.
What does the splanchnic circulation supply and involve?
Gut and spleen, portal vein, liver.
What does the renal portal system supply?
Glomerulus, tubules (kidney).
What does the caudal vena cava link?
Trunk and hindlimbs, tubules (kidney), liver - heart (RA).
At what point in the cardiac cycle is the pressure of blood at its highest and where does it occur?
During systole (contraction of the heart), in particular during the contraction of the left ventricle, both in the left ventricle and aorta.
