global system is now increasingly ‘decentered’, and is becoming characterized by what he calls ‘reverse colonialism. A practice from non-western societies is colonising the way things are done in western societies including the USA.
Globalisation can not just take over the world no matter how powerful it is, due to ‘Latinisation’ e.g Los Angeles
Global spread of and appeal of US cultural icons e.g McDonalds, apple, should not lead to a simple conclusion that globalisation represents a process of Americanisation.

This saw that due to social media permanently connecting activists that were able to create an uprising, protesting community, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube were used to present the government abuses of citizens and also shape public opinions about issues such as repression.
