What is cultivation?
A
Method of weed control- ploughing the soil to disturb weeds roots.

What are the advantages of cultivation?
A
Can plough in cover crops at the same time as removing weeds.
No chemicals- organic/bio
Enables fertilisers

What are the disadvantages of cultivation?
A
Cost- skilled labour and equipment
Repeated= damage soil structure and ecology due to breakdown of organic matter and disruption of earthworms in their habitat.
Disturbing the soil buries seeds- weeds can grow back.
Can increase vine vigour too much- no competition for water/nutrients.
