Crime Scene Initial Action Flashcards
Arriving at the Scene
1) Note and stop any vehicles attempting to leave the scene.
2) Park in a clear, safe area.
3) Note your time of arrival, the weather and any other relevant matters.
4) Stop and take note of what is happening and where.
5) Give COMMS a sitrep
6) Maintain radio comms. If necessary, give a SFP
7) Approach the scene, with radio & appropriate equipment
8) Locate your informant and obtain the facts in brief.
9) Identify an interference in the scene.
10) Remember to record or mark out a clear approach to the scene.
Establish order and control
1) Control - remove all people from the scene. Assemble people in clear area and stay with them. Warn them not to discuss. Keep warring factions apart. Obtain details.
Their cooperation and consent is required unless arrested.
Scene Guard Duties
Maintains a register Records all movements Scene - prevent unauthorised entry Communicate relevant info to O/C Scene Ensure common approach path used No discussion with bystanders Ensure no disturbance Guard & protect scene & prevent animals Use courtesy with civilians, witnesses Advise O/C of actions taken Relief - brief relieving scene guard Duty - remain until relieved
