A

OC THE SCENE

Oversee and coordinate the examination
Communication link to O/C investigation

To inspect, uplift and ensure delivery of exhibits to exhibit recorder
Have to prove relevant exhibits in court
Ensure scene photographed, fingerprinted and examined.

Strategy for forensic examination
Control, freeze, preserve the scene
Establish common approach path from cordon to focal point
Need to brief staff on their duties
Ensure you do reconnaissance to gain overall picture

How to conduct a Reconnaissance

A

1) Gather all available information
2) Create a common approach pathway
3) Sketch the scene and briefly note anything of significance.
4) Note and be prepared to cope with anything that may damage or affect evidence.
5) Reconsider scene boundaries
6) Consider hot, warm and cold zones.
