Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Flashcards
What is a prion?
Idiopathic misfolded proteins that can cause neurodegenerative diseases in animals and humans. Don’t contain genetic material.
When a misfolded prion comes into contact with a normal prion can induce adoption of the abnormal shape causing a cascade of misfolding and aggregation.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder that belongs to a group of prion diseases known as transmissible s_____ e_____
