What did William Beveridge do?
He investigated what could be done to improve the health of Britain. He published ‘The Beveridge Report’ in 1944
What did Beveridge recommend?
A National health service, providing health care that as free to everyone
What were some negative responses to the Beveridge report?
Doctors thought they might become government employees and lose money
Local councils and charities objected to the government taking over the management of their hospitals
Some thought poverty and sickness was the own persons fault
