16
Q

How to test Cranial Nerve IX

A

Ask the pt to say aaaah and look for any vulval deviation.
If damage is present, there will also be no gag reflex.

17
Q

Cranial X

A

Vagus -
neck, thorax and abdomen.

18
Q

How to test Cranial Nerve X

A
  1. Look for deviation in the vulva.
  2. Check gag reflex although this is not always reliable and uncomfortable.
19
Q

Cranial Nerve XI

A

Accessory -
innervates sternocleidomastoid and trapezius.

20
Q

How to test Cranial Nerve XI

A

Ask the pt to shrug their shoulders.

21
Q

Cranial Nerve XII

A

Hypoglossal -
motor to the tongue.

22
Q

How to test Cranial Nerve XII

A
  1. Ask the pt to protrude their tongue.
  2. Look to see if it is symmetrical in both movement and bulk.
