A
Via a cannula in the arm.

When gaining consent for GA, which key things should you inform the patient of?
A
- Should attend with an escort.
- No driving , signing of legally binding documents or operation of machinary for 24 hours after.
- Pt should fast for 6 hours prior.
- May feel nauseous after.

How is IV sedation administered?
A
Via a cannula in the back of the patient’s hand.

What advice should be given to the pt regarding the administration of IV sedation?
A
- They will be awake and responsive throughout the procedure.
- Must attend with a competent adult who will look after them for the rest of the day.
- No driving, machinery operation or signing of legal documents in the next 24 hours.
- Pt should not eat for 2 hours prior to appt.

When should oral sedation be taken?
A
At home 1 hour before the appointment.
- not as reliable as IV sedation *
