  • stand or knell around the victim and wrap your arms around the victims waist
  • make a fist with one hand
  • place the thumb side of your fist agains the victims abdomen in the MIDLINE about the navel & well below the breast bone
  • grasp your first with the other hand & press your fist into the victims abdomen with a quick forceful upward thrust
  • repeat the thrusts unt il the object is expelled from the airway
  • give each new thrust with a separte distinct movement to relieve the obstruction
  • obese or pregnant perform chest thrust instead of abdominal thrust

  • lower victim to the ground
  • start cpr with 1 exception
  • look into the mouth before breaths if you see any object
  • after 5 cycles activate the emergency responce system

  • hold the infant face down on your arm supporting the head
  • 5 forceful backslaps
  • cradle between both forearms & role infants over
  • give 5 chest thrusts
  • repeat until the object is removed or the infant becomes unconscious
