Describe what Coryza is?
Acute viral infection of the nasal passages
What causes Coryza?
The most common cause is Rhinovirus
How is it transferred?
Droplets (Sneezing)
Presentation of Coryza?
Purulent nasal discharge
Sore throat
Cough
What is an uncommon symptom of Coryza?
Fever
What is the treatment of Coryza?
Supportive (no treatment required)
What are the complications of Coryza?
Sinusitis
Acute Bronchitis
What is acute sinusitis?
This is an acute infection of the sinuses
What causes acute sinusitis?
Usually preceded by a cold
Caused by infection and inflammation of the sinuses
Symptoms of acute sinusitis?
Purulent nasal discharge
How long should acute sinusitis last before a different diagnosis is considered?
Should last 10 days
What is Pharyngitis?
A sore throat (infection and inflammation of the pharynx)
What is Croup?
This is inflammation of the pharynx and the surrounding tissues
