Cortical Zones in Epilepsy Flashcards
Irritative Zone
Cortical region which is capable of generating interictal epileptiform discharges on EEG
Symptomatogenic Zone
Cortical region which generates ictal symptoms when activated by epileptiform discharges
Ictal Onset zone
-Cortical region where ictalepileptiform discharges originate
Epileptogenic lesion
-a structural abnormality responsible for seizure generation
Functional deficit zone
cortical region that displays interictal aberrant function
Epileptogenic zone
theoretical zone of thecerebral cortex that is able to general seizures. Complete removal ofdisconnection of this zone renders the patient seizure-free
Eloquent cortex
the area of the cerebral cortex that, if removed, will bring about a neurological deficit
