Consumers have the right to honest and accurate information about goods and services, e.g. price
This enables them to compare goods and services and make wise choices for their individual of family’s needs
This right is protected by the Consumer Protection Act 2007 as it prevents misleading claims being made about goods or services

Consumers have the right to choose from a wide range of goods and services.

Consumers are entitled to expect value for money
All products or services offered should be of high quality, regardless of price
This is protected by the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980
Value for money does not always mean the cheapest i.e. a cheap product could end up having high running cost dur to being energy inefficient
Consumers should receive a high-quality product or service, regardless of whether it is full price or on sale

Consumers have the right to purchase goods or services that are guaranteed safe and will not harm their health or put their lives at risk
Goods undergo strict safety and quality testing to ensure that they are of a high standard before being retailed, e.g. cars undergo crash tests to ensure design standards will protect occupants
The following may be carried by a product for consumer safety:
Instructions for use, e.g. wear gloves
Safety warnings, e.g. poisonous: do not swallow
Hazard symbols, e.g. flammable
According to the consumer’s right to safety, describe the quality of the product/service available.
Goods or services purchased must be guaranteed safe and will not harm the consumer’s health or put their life at risk
