Why did Hitler call the 5th of March election 1933?

A

The Nazi party didnt have majority within the Reichstag but he tried to over come this by a new election, if he had majority he would be able to pass laws and take over the country easily.

A

Hitler managed to convince Hindenburg to pass an emergency decree that the communist party was trying to revolutionise and Germany is under threat.

What happened during the March 1933 election?

A

Nazis seats increased but not enough to overthrow the constitution and therefor the Nazi party joined forces with the Nationalists, despite this they still didnt have enough.

What was the importance of the Enabling Act?

A

This gave Hitler and his government full power for the next four years meaning the Reichstag was non existent, it was passed on 23rd march 1933, and was the end of the weimar constitution, it lead to Hitler abolishing trade unions, all political parties, and they took control of the press, Hitler created a dictatorship.

What happened to the trade unions?

A

on May 2nd 1933 all trade unions were removed and replaced with the Labour Front (DAF). Wages were decided by the labour front and they also acted as employers groups. People would be given work books that documented their work history. Strikes were outlawed and anyone opposed would be sent to the new concentration camps for political re-education.
