18

Platelets are involved in…
Erythrocytes carry…
B-lymphocytes make…

A

20
Q

Roles of connective tissue?

A
Structural framework
Transporting fluids + dissolved material
Protecting delicate organs
Storing energy reserves
Defending body from microorganisms!
21
Q

Elastic fibres have a high elasticity and enable organs to stretch + return to original shape.
Examples of where they’re found?

A

Skin, arteries, lung, intestine, bladder, heart.

22
Q

Describe process of Interstitial Bone Growth.

Lengthens bones) (Occurs at epiphyseal plate!

A

Chondrocytes are cells that can produce cartilage.
They will divide and produce daughter cells = additional cartilage! This can then be mineralised to lengthen bone.
This starts in embryonic development and continues to adolescence. KEY for development!

23
Q

Describe the process of Appositional Bone Growth.

Bone remodelling) (increases bone density) (also occurs due to trauma, to repair bone!

A

Under the surface, chondrocytes are activated.
The perichondrium on the outside divides repeatedly to become chondroblasts (immature chondrocytes).
These mature and produce cartilage, are embedded in the matrix to cause further bone growth / remodelling.

24
Q

Which part of the embryo does connective tissue derive from?

A

The Mesoderm

25
Q

What is NOT a role of connective tissue?

A

Conducts electrical impulses

26
Q

Which cell synthesises collagen?

A

Fibroblast

27
Q

Which cell makes bone extracellular matrix?

A

Osteoblast

28
Q

What does NOT contain specialised dense connective tissue?

A

Tongue (contains generalised)

29
Q

Cartilage is made up of GAGs and…

A

Collagen Type 2
