therefor, in conclusion, britain did become more democratic between 1851-1928 due to industrialisation and urbanisation. This is because…..

A

evidence clearly shows……
the influx of people into cities
growth of government funded schools
growth of railway
and increased access to newspapers
…….all allowed for ordinary people to develop political understanding

Q

balance argument
on the one hand however,

A

it could be argued that the impact of WW1 and foreign competition was what caused britain to become more democratic.
Britain was keen to remain the birthplace of democracy and with other country’s beginning to introduce more democratic laws so the government hade to take action to catch up.

moreover, the first world war had a huge impact on British life and changed it forever. it could therefor be argued the mixing of social class groups and shared desire for democracy was what had the greatest impact

Q

refer back to your argument
on the other hand however,

A

urbanisation and industrialisation brought together groups who began exploring other political ideology such as socialism - particularly as the workers contribution to modern Britain was so clear.

the creation of trade unions put pressure on the government as they could see there strength in bringing about work place changes for the underrepresented working class and the government were left with little option but to introduce more democratic changes.
