Define health
Health is a state of complete mental, physical and social well being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.
Define exercise
A form of physical activity which maintains or improves health and/or physical fitness.
Define fitness
The ability to meet the demands of the environment.
Define performance
How well a task is completed.
Explain the term fit but not healthy
A person can be fit for their sport, e.g. a sumo wrestler but they are not healthy as they are overweight and may have health issues related to this such as diabetes.

What are the skill related components of fitness?

Cardiovascular fitness
The ability to exercise the entire body for long periods of time.
Muscular strength
The amount of a force a muscle can exert against a resistance.
Muscular endurance
The ability to use the voluntary muscles many times without getting tired.
Flexibility
The range of movement possible at a joint.
Body composition
The percentage of body weight that is fat, muscle and bone.
Agility
The ability to change the position of the body quickly and to control the movement of the whole body
Balance
The ability to retain the centre of mass of the body above the base of support. This can be static (stationary) or dynamic (moving)
Coordination
The ability to use two or more body parts together
